My Decade in Review

As the 2000's come to a close (how do you say that grammatically? The "aughts"? The "zero's"?), it's caused me to reflect on the decade that saw the most important and lasting transitions of my life. A one-phrase summary for each year:

2000 - homesick
2001 - courted by Chris
2002 - engagement
2003 - entering into holy matrimony
2004 - buying our first house
2005 - welcoming our first child
2006 - sleepless in Chicago
2007 - welcoming our second child
2008 - transitioning into a family of four
2009 - comfortable in my own skin

I like to see this decade as the one in which God has borne fruit in me. I think of the 1990's as the decade in which I was searching for my identity and found it in Christ. I see the 2000's as the decade in which my new identity has begun to flesh itself out.

Places I went on vacation (or was there for a wedding or a missions trip) this decade:
-Paris
-London
-Bath, England
-Kauai
-Maui
-Banff, Alberta
-Wisconsin Dells
-Washington DC
-Bar Harbor, Maine
-St. Louis
-Augusta, Georgia
-Denver
-Columbus, Ohio
-Harare, Zimbabwe (incidentally, I was there over 9/11 -- crazy story)
-New York City
-New Jersey
-Philadelphia

I anticipate traveling less in this upcoming decade, or at least to less exotic destinations, though perhaps if we end up adopting internationally, I'll have at least one opportunity to use my passport....

Happy New Decade to all!
